I took this video and I was really glad I did, because I rewatched it once all the way through and I watched other parts of it part of the way through repeatedly. This was really funny.
To everyone who plays video games: You really don’t need to keep re-playing them if you just have someone to play them with. You feel really good about having played once in a while if you have other people to share it with. Reminds me of what they say about alcoholics wanting to recreate social experiences, even though people don’t take video games anywhere near as seriously, which makes sense since video games generally don’t cause physiological addictions or accidents. But I’m not even talking about the kinds of things everyone considers to be addictive behavior and the things which obviously waste a lot of time at best and ruin lives at worst. I’m talking about that it really seems like most people are sort of unhealthy in a more subtle way based on the fact I just played this once a couple of days ago and entertained myself just rewatching it. That feels special. Unfortunately the guy who made the group doesn’t really seem to want to show up again. Which is why I’ll also extend an invitation to you to play. It’s City of Heroes, you can make basically anything you want, including a villain, a furry, or a furry villain, because you’re just making the comic book character you want really.
America has a loneliness epidemic. Here are 6 steps to address it : NPR
The fact is, most people are lonely, and I don’t think any infrastructure will fix that. People are lonely because they go and watch shows like The Big Bang Theory and then they feel like everyone will mock them for liking really normal things like superheroes, science fiction, and fantasy or whatever, and they also go major in things like political science and business instead of STEM because they think STEM is for losers, then they have less money, which means they’re more disconnected. People in my opinion are mostly just lonely because they’re weak. Look at Henry Cavill here. He played Superman and the Witcher in a movie and he builds and plays with Warhammer 40k models. Does he look anything like Sheldon Cooper to you?
At the risk of sounding like Jordan Peterson, just buck up kiddo. Of course Jordan Peterson could probably do with his own advice, what with the all-beef diet, drug addictions, and whatever. He says some good things sometimes though so I mostly just hope he really gets his act together. Some of the same people who listen to him like Alan Watts and that’s hardly a bad sign but then there’s this:
So, the telepath in the first video doesn’t care what people think despite knowing what people think, and you shouldn’t care what people think, either. Grow a skin instead of being a wuss. Harry Potter is another good illustration of this. Just having powers doesn’t make you a hero, or even a villain. There are the four houses, but as is often pointed out, only two of those are relevant to the plot. Even if you’re really talented or powerful you also need to have some kinds of virtues like being brave to actually accomplish anything and join Gryffindor or at least Slytherin instead of just sitting out in Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw not doing anything useful. Even if you’re like the telepath or the fey demon in the first video and your power isn’t “look how buff I am” you still need to have a strong personality to accomplish anything in life, so that matters more than all your talents, and I think a lot of people tend to forget that and only focus on talent. I’m sure talent is a dime a dozen even if it’s great to have that too, but character is more like one in a million. One good way to start with having character is not letting people bully you out of liking or doing what will amount, on closer inspection, to “literally anything interesting and/or useful.” This is called jealousy even if people try to mask it, and you don’t have to be the mind reader I made to know that.
Also if you need a friend, especially if I know who you are and/or think you’re cool, feel free to join me in City of Heroes, it’s a blast.
