It never crossed my mind that secular humanism has ceased to exist as an ideology, but then I read this and I thought, “You know, she’s absolutely right.”

I think it was G.K. Chesterton who said that giving up your belief in God doesn’t mean that you then believe nothing but that you’ll believe anything. He was on to something there but I’d go him one better: If you leave a community of believers, you’ll start looking around for another one. Perhaps one of the reasons that secular humanism faded out is that it had little or no community spirit. People not only need to believe, they need to belong. The political branch of poststructuralism, postmodern progressivism, is certainly a quasi-religious community of believers. And it succeeds as such because it provides the one thing that secular humanism lacked: a demonology.

I love this piece. I just stumbled upon your work through notes. I love the illustration and the music at the end as well. Thanks. I am interested to hear more. I shall drop by from time to time. You have an interesting way of putting things.

white cisheteropatriarchal phallogocentric systems of science,

Is that a mouthful to say, "Straight white men run science."?

No, it's much more bizarrely accusing science of being something run by straight white men on the basis that it's actually coherent, much like the infamous accusations that clocks are racist because they promote the supposedly white norm of being on time. Never mind that at this point America probably outsources most of its science to Indian and Chinese people anyway even if the majority, but not all, is generally male, and even without that there's the whole thing of accusing science of being too Jewish by some of the more reactionary types. I guess Jewish people are white if you're one of the pro-Hamas protesters though.

I always marvel at the stupidity. It's almost as if nobody else ever thought of time before men invented clocks. Marxism makes no damned sense.

I would love for you to have a 15 minute conversation with my oldest brother and sister, solely because they would melt down at 11.9 seconds… or as sooner if you begin with “truth is a social construct.”

I wrote something that touched on the demise of secular humanism recently. What happened to Pauls Kurtz, effectively removed from the secular organisations he created, was a disgrace and the New Atheists were silent. I think that was a massive mistake because we need to build bridges. This is a very interesting take.

I never heard the whole evolution is too christian argument. That's rich, I'd love to read that. I think I'd blow a fuse.

Man reality is giving satirists a run for their money.

On a rambly side note. The amount of people who confuse selection for evolution is too damn high. I think general understanding of evolution is poor.
