I am not a fan of the "It was all a dream" twist, but having a the office sequel with Gregor as a bug, with a little tie, in the middle of his colleagues, who act as if all of it is normal.
A meeting were they all argue about a petty problem Gregor just say "crishhhhhhhhh" and everyone nodding "Yea good point."
"Gregor can you walk on the ceiling to change the light bulbs? Please be careful to not stay attracted to hit all day this time."
...The problem is Gregor Samsa dies at the end of the original one and for there to be a sequel he needs to not die. Since it opens like "it was no dream" I figured making it so it's not a dream that he's a bug, but everything else is a dream is the best way to accomplish that and get rid of the part where he literally dies. Then a lot of events can be structured to be similar to the original, like the part where he listens to Grete Samsa play the violin.
Yes, that'd probably be funnier than the dream one since the dream one risks turning into the terrible version too much even if it's not like there should be a rule that you never ever use dreams in fiction.
I hope you know there's an episode of the show Home Movies that is a Franz Kafka rock opera

Thanks for making me laugh!

The dream trope is not very well received in general. It’s Kafka so something nonsensical is completely on board with his writing.
"But I thought Gregor died."
"I got better."
No explanations and things go on. Very on topic.

So how soon do you need the script done?
...Are you writing a Kafka musical now? Hahaha.
I'm not musical so the songs are up to you!
Haha! That would actually be funny though.
