My own explanation for Beta decay is that the neutron is actually just a Proton with an electron orbiting so closely to the surface of the Proton that the protons charge is completely absorbed by the electron (hence neutrality), and that it is only by being inside of the nucleon (2 neutrons) that stabilizes the orbit of the electron around the proton because of the extra mass of the 2 neutrons orbiting each other, so that when a neutron is ejected from the nucleon it is no longer stable and takes about 7 minutes to decay into a Proton, electron, etc., due to the hyper-intense orbital trajectory of the neutron's electron.

Also, there is no such thing as a massless particle (E=M), an illusion created by the dualistic dichotomy between body and soul or spirit and matter, IMHO.

Now speculating is fun but I don’t think any of that is remotely substantiated. Neutrons are supposed to be made of one up quark and two down quarks, not a proton and an electron. Massless particles are still limited to the speed of light except in the whole scenario where space itself is bent which is a legitimate explanation for FTL travel in science fiction.
